Each release includes a SHA256SUMS file with SHA-256 checksums of all packages.

Terminal window
# Linux / macOS, in the folder with the downloaded files
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS # Linux
shasum -a 256 --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS # macOS
Terminal window
# Windows (PowerShell): compare with the line in SHA256SUMS
Get-FileHash .\Pabaru-windows-x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256
  1. Open the .dmg and drag Pabaru into Applications.
  2. Open Pabaru. macOS says it cannot verify the developer – click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to the message about Pabaru, click Open Anyway and confirm. From then on Pabaru opens normally. (On macOS 14 and older, right-click the app → Open also works.)

Alternatively, remove the quarantine flag in Terminal:

Terminal window
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Pabaru.app

For the CLI archive, the same applies to the unpacked binary: xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ./pabaru.

You need a recent stable Rust toolchain.

Install just the command-line tool:

Terminal window
cargo install --git https://github.com/j3corre/pabaru pabaru-cli

Or build everything, including the desktop app:

Terminal window
git clone https://github.com/j3corre/pabaru
cd pabaru
cargo build --release
# binaries: target/release/pabaru (CLI) and target/release/pabaru-gui (app)

On Linux, the desktop app needs a few development libraries, for example on Debian/Ubuntu:

Terminal window
sudo apt install libxkbcommon-dev libgtk-3-dev libxcb-render0-dev \
libxcb-shape0-dev libxcb-xfixes0-dev libssl-dev
